I am considering one of these to replace my outback, that has not been the best car.

My wife’s lease is up in 2020 on her Highlander and she wants to downsize. If this is true, the CX-5 ju st moved up to #1 on the list.

I drove the Mazda6 2.5Turbo Grand Touring. That wave of torque is just fantastic for city/suburban driving. I loved that car and wish it had AWD, personally.

Bigly if true, and I think this will sway many buyers towards it who were complaining that 185HP is not enough.

Can we get something more in the CX-9 now? Seems like it would make sense...

This is the only way I’d buy an SUV. Or CUV. Or whatever the hell it is. Mazdas for the win.

Since the Juke is out of production, My wife is liking the CX-3 and CX-5's for our new vehicle. Especially now, that I woke up to 37 degree weather in Montana and it’s only going to get colder.

Daaaaaaammmmm yo! When we got my wife’s 2018, I knew Android Auto would be coming on the 2019 and we’d have to wait on the retrofit , but the turbo? That stings a little. Then again, her car fits exactly the budget we had in mind, it’s already faster than her Impreza we traded in, and it’s not like I’m driving the thing all the time.

Meanwhile, I’m over here driving my 2006 Mazdaspeed 6 with AWD and 274hp out of a 2.3T (which is still to this day the most powerful piston-engined car Mazda has rolled off an assembly line) .

Wish I could convince my wife to buy this but she is a staunch hybrid convert LOL. This would have been the go to otherwise. I personally would not own one even though I like it a lot, and with the Turbo should be just fantastic! I like the Mazda6 2. 5t better.

At one point I was looking for these used. Those glory days are long gone. Severa
l interviews with Mazda bigwigs have confirmed they are firmly focused
on “
Premium Experience
” going forward. No more “Speed” anything products.

Damn, that’s a pretty compelling package. If I needed an CUV, that would be #1 on my list. Although side note, those wheels are boring. Come on, Mazda, you can do better.

Yep, I acknowledged as much in my 323 GTX review , and even made a case in the last couple paragraphs for how Mazda can keep their Premium Experience™ while stealing some marketshare from Subaru.

Knowing our luck it will be a Canadian option only. Or it will be it’s own special trim at the very top end of the scale.

Very much possible. Or they could follow the 6's strategy and offer it on the top 2 trims at least.
I also read that there was some leaked EPA document that confirmed this for the US.

Clean examples of these things pop up on CL for surprisingly low prices. How long have you had yours? How has it been reliability-wise and are there common failures to watch out for?

I bought mine with 100k miles last summer from the original owner in California. It’s at 117k now. I’ve had to replace the EGR valve (owners who don’t have to bother with emissions testing typically just delete it and block it off), but that’s it.
Watch for rust on the rear wheel arches. The VVT system typically needs servicing around 100k; make sure the car you buy has documentation showing this has been done. The stock K04 turbo can consume/leak oil and grenade itself. The rear diff mount (and it is a LSD) doesn’t stand up to launches, so check that for wear.
The good thing is that the 2.3 DISI engine was used in the Speed6, Speed3, and CX-7 (same transfer case on the CX-7, too), so parts availability isn’t too much of a concern.
You shouldn’t have too many problems if you keep the car stock and don’t go WOT below 3000rpm (else you’ll likely suffer the dreaded ZZB: Zoom Zoom Boom, thrown rods). If you want to make more power, you’ll need a high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) before anything else. There’s a Speed6 here in the Denver area making 700hp:

Im driving a 2013 awd touring with a 2.0 155 hp engine and it’s fine for 2 people and a dog. That said I’m sick of the games Mazda plays with features from not only year to year but from month to month. See a vehicle on the lot tell them you want one in a different color then find out its equipment content has been changed for the worst.
Acura RDX here I come.
